Corrections Officer Andrew Lansing Killed in Ohio
On Christmas morning, Corrections Officer Andrew Lansing, 62, was killed by inmate Rashawn Cannon at the Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe, Ohio. Lansing had served over 20 years as a corrections officer and was known for his respect and professionalism towards colleagues and inmates alike. The incident, which occurred around 7:15 AM, led to an immediate investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the prison is currently under restricted movement. Director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Annette Chambers-Smith, expressed deep sorrow over Lansing's death, calling it a tragedy beyond comprehension, particularly as it occurred on a holiday. Governor Mike DeWine ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Lansing until his funeral. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault is ongoing, with Cannon having been transferred to a maximum security facility.
