Bodies of 3 Missing US Soldiers Recovered in Lithuania, Search for 4th Ongoing
Three U.S. Army soldiers from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team were found dead after their vehicle submerged in a peat bog during a training exercise in Lithuania on March 25. The search for a fourth soldier continues, with recovery efforts hampered by difficult swamp conditions. The soldiers' M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicle was retrieved after a six-day operation involving U.S. and Lithuanian forces, which included specialized equipment and divers. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda expressed condolences and solidarity with the U.S. during this tragic event. The cause of the accident is under investigation, while the identities of the deceased soldiers are being withheld pending family notification. This incident highlights the ongoing military cooperation between the U.S. and Lithuania as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
