Detroit Tigers Extend AL East Dominance With 5-3 Orioles Win
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 at Camden Yards, continuing their dominant 4-0 record against Baltimore this season and improving their overall record to 44-24. Spencer Torkelson contributed a two-run homer, his 16th of the season, during a four-batter rally in the fifth inning that also included hits from Riley Greene, Dillon Dingler, and Zach McKinstry, who hit two triples. Sawyer Gipson-Long, returning after missing all of 2024 due to multiple surgeries, pitched effectively out of the bullpen, allowing one run and striking out five over 4 2/3 innings. Orioles starter Cade Povich struggled, yielding five runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings, while Tigers opener Brant Hurter provided a solid 2 2/3 innings against mostly left-handed hitters. Jordan Westburg homered for Baltimore in the ninth inning in his first game back from the injured list, but it was not enough to overcome Detroit's strong offense and pitching. The Tigers have been particularly successful against the AL East this season, with a 16-2 record in their last 18 games versus the division, marking their best performance against AL East teams since 1973.
