Suspect Stabbed with Fork During St. Clair Shores Carjacking Attempt

Eddie Leon Gaines, a 60-year-old man from Detroit, is facing serious charges after an attempted robbery and carjacking incident on February 21 at a Kroger store in St. Clair Shores. Gaines allegedly tried to steal a purse from a 64-year-old woman, prompting intervention from a bystander who struck him with a shopping bag. He then jumped into a running vehicle with a 61-year-old man inside, threatened him for money, and was subsequently stabbed in the face with a fork by the victim during a struggle. Authorities apprehended Gaines shortly after he fled to a nearby Walgreens. He has been charged with carjacking, unlawful imprisonment, and unarmed robbery, with a bond set at $250,000. If released, he will be required to wear a GPS tether and have no contact with the victims or the Kroger store.
