Dell to Lay Off 12,500 in AI Shift

Dell Technologies has announced the layoff of approximately 12,500 employees, marking its second major workforce reduction in the past 15 months. The layoffs, primarily affecting sales and marketing divisions, are part of a strategic reorganization to focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and streamline its operations. Dell executives Bill Scannell and John Byrne communicated the decision through an internal memo, emphasizing the company's aim to become 'leaner' and prioritize investments in AI to drive future growth. This follows previous layoffs of 13,000 employees last year, reducing Dell's global workforce to around 120,000. The tech industry has seen similar trends, with companies like Intel also announcing significant job cuts to adapt to market changes and AI advancements.
