UK Landmarks Illuminate for VE Day 80th Anniversary

Across the United Kingdom, landmarks, monuments, and buildings—including sites in London, Liverpool, and Peterborough—are being illuminated in red, white, and blue to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the end of World War II in Europe. The nationwide displays, taking place from 9pm, include London Bridge, Buckingham Palace, The Shard, Liverpool's St George’s Hall and Cunard Building, and Peterborough Cathedral, among many others. In addition to the light shows, cities are hosting a variety of commemorative events such as military processions, RAF flypasts, beacon lightings, bell ringings, tea parties, and civic ceremonies to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served. Special installations, like the return of 30,000 ceramic poppies at the Tower of London and themed decorations in city centers, further mark the occasion.
