Crashes Across Southeast Cause Delays, Include Fatality

A string of crashes and related incidents Monday prompted lane closures and long delays on interstates and highways across the Southeast and beyond. Incidents included a rollover blocking all northbound lanes of Highway 331 in Freeport (Walton County) with one driver treated for minor injuries, and multiple crashes on I‑85 that knocked down an overhead sign in Gwinnett County as well as a pursuit-related crash in Gaston County, N.C., where the fleeing driver was taken into custody. Several I‑95 incidents caused major disruptions, including a semi‑trailer crash that fully shut northbound traffic near Richmond Hill/Savannah, a tractor‑trailer wreck near Fayetteville, and a fatal southbound crash in the Deerfield Beach/Parkland area that killed at least one person. Other disruptions included a vehicle fire on I‑526 in Mount Pleasant, S.C., a multi-vehicle crash closing northbound I‑55 south of Festus, and a lane-blocking crash on Route 222 in Lancaster County. Many scenes remain under investigation as emergency crews work to clear wreckage, and drivers were urged to use caution and seek alternate routes.
