Amazon’s cloud computing unit AWS has launched a new quantum computing chip named 'Ocelot', which significantly reduces the cost of quantum error correction. The Ocelot chip features a novel architectural design, incorporating 14 core components, including data qubits and buffer circuits for stabilizing qubits. In a related development, Amazon executives have publicly expressed skepticism towards Microsoft's recent claims regarding its Majorana 1 quantum chip, asserting that Microsoft's scientific paper does not substantiate its breakthrough assertions and highlighting the company's history of retracted research. Amazon's head of quantum technologies, Simone Severini, along with other executives, criticized Microsoft's statements as exaggerated, while expressing more confidence in the efforts of Google and IBM.
