Philippine Preacher Apollo Quiboloy Arrested for Trafficking

Apollo Quiboloy, a prominent evangelical preacher and founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, has been arrested in the Philippines on charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse. The 74-year-old, who has referred to himself as the 'owner of the universe' and 'appointed son of God', was captured after a two-week manhunt near his church's compound in Davao, a stronghold of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is also his longtime friend. Quiboloy is wanted not only in the Philippines but also by the FBI for separate charges related to sex trafficking and bulk cash smuggling. Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos confirmed the arrest, stating Quiboloy turned himself in after a lengthy search involving over 2,000 police officers. He faces serious allegations, including running a prostitution ring and coercing young women into sexual acts under the guise of religious servitude, which he denies. The arrest has sparked discussions about the influence of religious leaders in Philippine politics and the ongoing efforts to address human trafficking.
