Angels DFA Cueto

The Los Angeles Angels designated veteran pitcher Johnny Cueto for assignment after he struggled in two starts, allowing nine runs in 11 1/3 innings. Manager Ron Washington acknowledged Cueto's positive influence on younger pitchers despite the team's decision, emphasizing his work ethic and willingness to share knowledge. Cueto, who has a career record of 144-113 and a 3.52 ERA, was brought up from Triple-A Salt Lake City, where he had a successful stint prior to his major league call-up. The Angels also placed reliever Carson Fulmer on the injured list due to elbow inflammation and transferred José Marte to the 60-day injured list. In Cueto's place, the team called up pitching prospects Caden Dana, who is considered their top prospect, and Sam Aldegheri, who made his major league debut as the first pitcher born in Italy to play in the majors.
