Man Charged with Arson After Massive Middle Township Storage Fire

Salvatore Gellura was charged with arson and making a false report after a fire he started in his storage unit at Burleigh Mini Storage in Middle Township spread uncontrollably, damaging over 50 units. The incident occurred around 8:49 a.m. when Gellura lit cardboard in a metal container to keep warm; the fire quickly escaped the container. One firefighter was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and several local fire departments responded to combat the blaze under challenging conditions. An investigation by multiple agencies revealed Gellura's actions led to the large fire, which also caused small forest fires due to gusty winds. He is currently held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility. The investigation is ongoing as authorities assess the damage and circumstances surrounding the fire.
