Sydney Harbour Water Turns Red Near Milson Park

Sydney residents were shocked to witness a portion of the harbour water turning blood red, specifically at Careening Cove near Milson Park in Kirribilli. North Sydney Council and the New South Wales Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) have begun investigations, suspecting the cause to be plumbers' dye, known as fluorescein, which is non-toxic but visually striking. Despite extensive inspections, the exact source of the dye remains unidentified, with similar incidents of water discoloration reported previously, including a fluorescent green hue in September. Both local authorities and residents have been advised to report any concerns to the EPA's 24/7 Environment Line. This phenomenon, while alarming in appearance, poses no threat to marine life or public safety.
