Venus Williams Set for July Tennis Comeback
Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, will return to professional tennis at age 45 after a 16-month hiatus, having accepted a wild-card invitation to the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, D.C., starting July 19. This will be her first WTA event since the Miami Open in March 2024 and her first DC Open appearance since 2022. Williams has not played in a Grand Slam since 2023 due to injuries, including a knee issue at Wimbledon. Her distinguished career includes five Wimbledon and two US Open singles titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles titles with her sister Serena, and four Olympic gold medals. Despite being listed as 'inactive' on the WTA website, Williams has not retired and has managed significant health challenges such as Sjögren’s syndrome and uterine fibroids. Her return has generated excitement among fans and organizers, who note her ongoing influence on tennis.
