Firefly Aerospace Plans $855M SciTec Acquisition Expanding Defense Space Capabilities

Firefly Aerospace announced an $855 million acquisition of SciTec, a national security technology firm specializing in missile warning, tracking, defense, intelligence, and surveillance software analytics. The deal will be financed with $300 million in cash and $555 million in Firefly shares, expected to close by the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approval. This acquisition enhances Firefly's capabilities in defense missions and integrates SciTec's advanced software analytics, big data processing, and AI-enabled systems to support U.S. homeland missile defense strategies and other national security imperatives. SciTec will continue to operate as a subsidiary under its current CEO, reporting to Firefly CEO Jason Kim, expanding Firefly's offerings in launch, lunar, and in-orbit operations for military and government clients. The acquisition positions Firefly to compete more effectively in the growing military-space market amid rising geopolitical tensions and increasing demand for advanced space defense technologies. This move follows Firefly's successful Nasdaq debut in August 2025, marking a strategic step to diversify and strengthen its aerospace and defense portfolio despite recent operational challenges.
