Former pensions minister Sir Steve Webb has warned that older widowed women may be missing out on up to £2,000 annually in State Pension due to miscalculations related to inherited pensions. He stated that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has failed to automatically include these amounts for many new claims, particularly affecting those whose spouses reached pension age before April 6, 2016. To assist, LCP has developed an online calculator to help individuals check their entitlements. Webb calls for an urgent investigation into the scale of this issue, which he believes could be widespread. In addition, the DWP has been updating its processes to correct historic underpayments through the LEAP and HRP exercises, but concerns about ongoing errors remain. Meanwhile, state pensioners are also encouraged to look into NHS Continuing Healthcare, which can cover significant care costs, alleviating financial burdens.
