Hunt for Gollum Set for December 2027 Release
'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,' a live-action spin-off directed by and starring Andy Serkis as Gollum, will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema on December 17, 2027. Produced by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, with Walsh and Boyens co-writing the screenplay, the film is set between 'The Hobbit' and 'The Fellowship of the Ring.' The story centers on Gandalf dispatching Aragorn to track down Gollum to stop him from revealing the One Ring’s secrets to Sauron. Andy Serkis is currently the only confirmed cast member, while original actors Ian McKellen and Viggo Mortensen have expressed interest in returning. The project is the first live-action Lord of the Rings movie since 2014 and is part of a new slate of Middle-earth films. The franchise has grossed nearly $6 billion worldwide to date.
