Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crash Kills 27, Injures 170 in Dhaka School
A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College in Dhaka, killing 27 people, including 25 children, and injuring over 170 others, many with severe burn injuries. The aircraft experienced a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff during a routine training mission, and the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam, died in the crash. Despite the pilot's efforts to avoid densely populated areas, the jet struck a two-story school building, spreading fire and devastation. The government declared a day of mourning, flying flags at half-mast nationwide and holding special prayers at places of worship. A high-level investigation committee has been formed by the Bangladesh Air Force to determine the exact cause of the accident. This tragedy follows closely after a recent major aviation disaster in India, highlighting ongoing aviation safety concerns in the region.
