Charlie Ward Expected to Become Florida A&M Basketball Coach

Charlie Ward, a former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at Florida State and longtime NBA player with the New York Knicks, is set to become the next head basketball coach at Florida A&M University, pending final board approval. Ward will replace Patrick Crarey, who left the Rattlers after one season for Grambling State. Florida A&M, which last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2007, hopes Ward's high-profile background will energize the program and inspire a turnaround. Ward brings coaching experience from leading Florida State University School to a state basketball championship and serving as an assistant coach for Team USA. His multi-sport legacy and ties to the state make him an impact hire for the Tallahassee-based program. Ward has agreed to a five-year contract with the Rattlers.
