Recent data from the RAC reveals alarming speeding trends on UK roads, with nearly half of police forces recording drivers exceeding 90mph on 30mph roads. The highest speed documented on a 30mph road was 122mph in South Yorkshire, while North Wales Police noted a driver going 88mph in a 20mph zone. The most extreme case involved a motorist clocked at 167mph on a 70mph stretch of the M1. The report highlights speed as a significant factor in road fatalities, with 311 deaths attributed to speeding-related incidents in 2023. The RAC has called for government action to address this issue in their upcoming road safety strategy.
