IDF Mossad Prepare for Iran-Backed Militia Attacks from Iraq Amid Regional Tensions

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Mossad are intensifying preparations against potential large-scale attacks from Iranian-backed militias based in Iraq, with the primary threat involving missile and drone launches from Iraqi territory, similar to tactics used in the Hamas attack on October 7. Esmail Qaani, commander of Iran's IRGC-Quds Force, recently met with senior militia leaders in Iraq, including Kataib Hezbollah, a well-armed and influential faction controlling key smuggling routes between Iraq and Syria. Secondary threat scenarios include ground invasions moving through Iraq and Syria toward the Israel-Jordan border. Israel has actively targeted militia infrastructure, including logistical hubs along the Iraq-Iran border during Operation Rising Lion, and has conveyed warnings to Baghdad via Washington. Meanwhile, Lebanon's army has been placed on high alert after an Israeli ground raid in southern Lebanon, with President Joseph Aoun ordering troops to defend against any Israeli incursions amid escalating tensions involving Hezbollah, which continues rebuilding its military capabilities with Iranian support. Israeli officials warn that the growing coordination between Iraqi militias and Hezbollah increases the risk of multi-front aggression against Israel.
