Richmond Man Charged Attempted Murder Bus Driver Attack

Mandingo Alfroconus Hayes, 54, of Richmond, has been charged with attempted murder and multiple other offenses after attacking his spouse, an AC Transit bus driver, with a knife and pepper spray aboard a bus near the Richmond BART station. The incident occurred Monday morning around 7:35 a.m., resulting in the driver sustaining superficial cuts and pepper spray exposure, requiring hospitalization. Hayes faces felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, violating a restraining order, unlawful possession of tear gas, and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on bail exceeding $630,000 to more than $1.1 million, with the case being prosecuted by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit.
