Cyclone Fengal Triggers Landslides in Southern India

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been severely affected by Cyclone Fengal, which has caused heavy rainfall, landslides, and flooding. In Krishnagiri district, Uthangarai received 50 cm of rainfall, causing significant disruption and vehicle damage. A landslide in Tiruvannamalai, exacerbated by the cyclone, led to a tragic incident where a boulder fell on a house, resulting in seven fatalities. The Indian Army and NDRF have been deployed across affected areas in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for rescue operations, evacuating hundreds of stranded residents. Schools and businesses have been closed, and rescue efforts are ongoing amidst further rain forecasts. Puducherry recorded the highest rainfall in 30 years, prompting urgent evacuation and relief measures by the authorities.
