Amazon Reduces Bond Producers' Creative Control
Matthew Goode shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he missed out on the James Bond role after pitching a version truer to Ian Fleming's novels, highlighting Bond's alcoholism, drug use, and self-loathing to producer Barbara Broccoli. Goode later reflected that he should have also emphasized Bond's charm in his pitch. Daniel Craig was ultimately selected for the role, portraying a darker but less extreme Bond. It was also revealed that Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have since reduced their creative control following Amazon MGM Studios' acquisition of the franchise. Meanwhile, Goode stars in Netflix's Dept. Q series. The interview also touched on his views about typecasting in Hollywood.
