Four Arrested in Mississippi SNAP Fraud Scheme

In a coordinated operation dubbed 'Operation SNAP Trap,' four DeSoto County women were arrested for allegedly defrauding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by obtaining over $131,000 in benefits. The suspects—Stephanie Wright, Tiffany Harrel, Syerra Lynks, and Lashonda Smith—were indicted for failing to disclose income and changes in circumstances that would have affected their eligibility for assistance. District Attorney Matthew Barton emphasized that this was not a case of innocent mistakes, but rather a deliberate attempt to exploit the welfare system.
