Chris Brown Granted Bail in UK Assault Case Ahead of International Tour
Chris Brown has been released on a £5 million ($6.7 million) bail ahead of his trial in the UK for allegedly assaulting music producer Abraham Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in London in February 2023. The bail allows Brown to proceed with his international Breezy Bowl XX tour, which includes dates in the UK, Ireland, Europe, the US, and Canada, with conditions such as surrendering his passport when not traveling, residing at a court-approved address, and avoiding contact with Diaw and the nightclub. Brown was arrested in Manchester after arriving in the UK for tour rehearsals and initially denied bail at a Manchester Magistrates Court, but the Southwark Crown Court granted bail during a subsequent hearing. The assault charge is serious, with prosecutors describing the incident as an unprovoked attack that caused Diaw head trauma and torn ligaments; Diaw has also filed a $16 million civil lawsuit against Brown. Brown has not yet entered a plea in the criminal case, and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, shortly before the UK leg of his tour begins on June 15. Brown's legal team is preparing for the trial, while the future of his other scheduled shows is currently secure under his bail conditions.
