XL Bully Attacks Leicestershire Police Officer, Serious Injuries Reported

On October 26, 2023, an XL Bully dog attacked a Leicestershire Police officer, leaving him with serious injuries that necessitated surgery. The incident occurred when two officers visited the home of Aden Hollyoake, where his partner Shanell Lawrence assured them the dogs were secured in the kitchen. However, less than a minute after entering, the XL Bully escaped and clamped onto the officer's leg for nearly a minute, despite attempts to subdue the dog with incapacitant spray. Following the attack, both Lawrence and Hollyoake pleaded guilty to charges related to the dog's dangerous behavior, with Hollyoake receiving a prison sentence and Lawrence a community order. Detective Constable James Highton emphasized the importance of responsible dog ownership and released footage to counter speculation that the officers had acted unlawfully. The XL Bully and a pit bull found at the residence have been removed and are currently in secure kennels.
