Former US Cyber Contractor Charged with Selling Classified Secrets to Russia

Peter Williams, the former CEO of L3Harris Trenchant, a U.S. government cybersecurity contractor, is accused of stealing eight trade secrets related to hacking technologies from two unnamed companies and selling them to a Russian buyer for $1.3 million. These secrets, which support national security operations and are used by U.S. intelligence agencies, could enhance Russia's cyber defense capabilities and increase the risk of attacks on federal systems. Williams served as general manager of the company from October 2024 until his resignation in August 2025 and is currently wanted by prosecutors who are seeking to confiscate his Washington home and luxury items. L3Harris Trenchant has launched an internal investigation into the possible leak but declined to comment publicly. The case highlights concerns about oversight and compliance by government contractors developing cyber tools for national security. A hearing on the indictment and potential plea agreement is scheduled for October 29, 2025.
