Disney’s Lilo & Stitch Expected to Top Lionsgate’s Ballerina Opening Weekend
Disney's live-action remake Lilo & Stitch is projected to maintain its box office dominance with an estimated $36 million in ticket sales for its third weekend, surpassing Lionsgate's John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which is expected to earn around $29 million domestically. Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas as a trained assassin seeking revenge, is opening in 3,400 theaters and internationally in 82 countries, potentially generating a global total near $60 million. Despite Keanu Reeves and other franchise stars appearing in supporting roles, Ballerina’s box office projections are lower than previous John Wick films, attributed to it being a spinoff and focusing on a solo female lead. Industry analysts note that spinoffs generally do not perform as strongly as main franchise entries, and Ballerina’s $90 million production budget reflects a significant investment. Other films like Paramount’s Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Sony’s Karate Kid: Legends are also competing for box office revenue, though none match Lilo & Stitch’s current momentum. Lionsgate plans to continue expanding the John Wick universe with upcoming sequels and spinoffs, despite Ballerina not expected to dethrone Lilo & Stitch at the domestic box office.
