Avantae Williams Charged with Second-Degree Murder in DeLand Bar Shooting

Former Miami and Maryland football player Avantae Williams was arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting at McCabe’s Bar in DeLand, Florida. The incident occurred early Saturday morning after a fistfight broke out inside the bar, leading to Williams allegedly drawing a gun and firing, which resulted in the death of 32-year-old Keshod Harris and non-life-threatening injuries to a bartender. Police reported approximately 40 patrons were present during the shooting, and the investigation remains open with authorities seeking additional witness information. Williams reportedly fled the scene but was arrested by DeLand police and is currently held in Volusia County. This is not Williams' first legal issue, as he was previously arrested in 2021 on a charge that was later dropped. Williams played college football at both Miami and Maryland before reentering the transfer portal in 2023.
