The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has uncovered a major land scam involving the illegal acquisition of approximately 310 kanals of Custodian land in Jammu, specifically in the Asarwan, Mishriwala, and Bhalwal areas. This operation revealed a collusion between land mafia and government officials from the Revenue, Custodian, and Police departments, who manipulated records to orchestrate fraudulent sales. The ACB has registered ten FIRs under the Prevention of Corruption Act, including charges of criminal conspiracy and forgery, following searches at twelve locations for evidence. The scam was facilitated through fraudulent power of attorney documents obtained from refugees from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, promising them financial returns ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. This discovery follows a previous case involving 210 kanals of Custodian land, indicating a pattern of corruption in land management. The ACB is committed to continuing its investigations to uncover further illegal activities and recover losses incurred by the government.
