Ellen Gilland Pleads No Contest in Husband's Death

Ellen Gilland, accused of fatally shooting her terminally ill husband in January 2023 at AdventHealth in Daytona Beach, pled no contest to charges as part of a plea agreement. The shooting was reportedly part of a murder-suicide pact, but she did not complete the suicide. Gilland engaged in a standoff with police, who subdued her using a distraction device. Initially charged with first-degree murder, her charges were amended to assisting self-murder/manslaughter and aggravated assault. Her plea agreement includes a cap of 10 years on her possible prison sentence, with sentencing scheduled for February 28, 2025.
