TotalEnergies, Air Liquide Launch €600 Million Hydrogen Projects in Netherlands

TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have entered into agreements to jointly develop two green hydrogen projects in the Netherlands, with an investment of approximately €600 million. These projects are expected to produce around 45,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, significantly reducing CO2 emissions from TotalEnergies’ refineries in Belgium and the Netherlands by up to 450,000 tons per year. The joint venture will include a 250 MW electrolyzer near the Zeeland refinery, set to be operational by 2029, which will reduce emissions at that site by up to 300,000 tons annually. Additionally, a tolling agreement for 130 MW will facilitate the production of 15,000 tons of hydrogen annually for the Antwerp refinery, with operations expected by the end of 2027. These initiatives align with European renewable energy targets and TotalEnergies’ ambition to decarbonize its hydrogen supply. The projects emphasize the growing importance of green hydrogen in industrial decarbonization efforts.
