The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced it will not form any pre-poll alliances for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, according to state party chief Ravinder Raina. However, the party is in discussions with 8 to 10 independent candidates from the Kashmir Valley, potentially strategizing for a post-election alliance. Raina expressed confidence in winning a majority in the elections and stated that the announcement for the first list of candidates is forthcoming. This election marks the first assembly polls in the region since the abrogation of Article 370, with voting scheduled for September 18, 25, and October 1, 2023. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has commented on the situation, indicating that his party intends to introduce a resolution against the revocation of Article 370 if they secure a majority. The BJP is looking to field many young candidates, aiming for significant electoral success in both Jammu and the Valley.
