Greece Expects Record €22 Billion Tourism Revenue

Greece's tourism sector is projected to achieve record revenues of approximately €22 billion ($23.24 billion) in 2024, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. This growth follows a successful 2023 when the country generated €20.6 billion in tourism revenue and welcomed 33 million visitors. Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni emphasized the sector's significant contribution to Greece's GDP and the importance of its workforce, advocating for improved tourism education and worker rights. The National Bank of Greece forecasts a continued trend of recovery and growth, anticipating 35 million tourists in 2024, up 7% from 2023. Furthermore, hotels are responding by offering up to 25% early booking discounts as demand for luxury tourism rises. The government is also addressing challenges posed by short-term rentals to ensure proper regulation within the tourism industry.
