Two Die in Odessa Cessna Citation 550 Crash
A Cessna Citation 550 crashed shortly after takeoff from Odessa-Schlemeyer Airport, killing pilot Joseph Vincent Summa and passenger Joleen Cavaretta Weatherly. The plane struggled to gain altitude, clipped power lines, and crashed into a mobile home park, causing a large fire that injured a woman and damaged several buildings, including Dewey's Breakfast Shop. Investigators from the NTSB and FAA are on-site, with a cockpit voice recorder and other avionics sent to Washington, D.C. for further examination. Preliminary reports indicate the pilot attempted to avoid houses before the crash. The Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter for affected residents. Power outages were reported in the area due to the crash.
