Pujols Ends Angels Manager Talks; Padres to Interview

Albert Pujols and the Los Angeles Angels have broken off managerial talks, with multiple outlets reporting the sides diverged early over coaches, resources and compensation and are unlikely to reconnect. Pujols remains under consideration by the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles, and the Padres are expected to interview him as they replace Mike Shildt. With Pujols out of the mix, the Angels are turning to internal candidates such as Kurt Suzuki and Torii Hunter, and Bo Porter has also expressed interest. Pujols brings recent managerial experience — a Dominican Winter League title and a slated role managing the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic — plus a Hall of Fame-caliber playing résumé (703 career homers, three MVPs).
