Mathias Pogba to Stand Trial for Extortion

Mathias Pogba, the brother of World Cup winner Paul Pogba, and five accomplices are set to stand trial for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping and extortion scheme targeting the former Manchester United star. The group reportedly demanded €13 million from Pogba and employed intimidation tactics, including threats of violence and abduction, to coerce him into compliance. During the investigation, Paul Pogba revealed he had paid €100,000 to the group, which included assertions that they attempted to discredit him by falsely claiming he sought witchcraft against teammate Kylian Mbappé. Mathias Pogba, who was arrested in September 2022, faces charges of attempted extortion and criminal conspiracy, while the other five are accused of extortion and illegal confinement. This legal battle adds to the challenges faced by Paul Pogba, who is currently appealing a four-year doping ban. The court date for the trial has yet to be announced.
