Los Angeles Q1 Film Production Declines 22%, FilmLA Reports
FilmLA's latest report indicates a significant decline in on-location production in the Greater Los Angeles area, with a 22.4% drop in overall shoot days during the first quarter of 2025. Television production saw the steepest decline at 30.5%, with TV dramas down by 38.9% and comedies down by 29.9%. Feature film production also fell sharply by 28.9%. Although the devastating wildfires in January temporarily affected production schedules, their long-term impact on filming levels was minimal, accounting for only 1.3% of regional productions in the past four years. The report highlights increasing competition from other states and countries, prompting California lawmakers to propose expanding the Film & Television Tax Credit Program to attract more productions. FilmLA emphasized that California cannot afford to lose more work as it struggles to recover from these production declines.
