Arajet Launches Flights from Newark to Santo Domingo on June 16

Arajet, the Dominican Republic's flag carrier, will launch flights between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Las Américas Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ) on June 16, significantly enhancing its presence in the U.S. market. The new route aims to serve the large Dominican diaspora in New York, with roundtrip fares starting at $262, making air travel more accessible for both the Dominican community and American tourists. CEO Victor Pacheco emphasized the airline's commitment to affordable travel and plans to position Arajet as a preferred carrier for both vacationers and those visiting family. The Newark service will complement existing routes to Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, and will provide connections to 24 destinations in the Caribbean and beyond. However, Arajet faces stiff competition from established carriers like JetBlue and Delta, which already dominate the market with numerous flights to the Dominican Republic. Analysts note that Arajet's entry could lower average fares but will require strategic positioning to carve out its niche in a crowded market.
