Matt Chapman Could Return for Giants This Weekend
San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman, out since June 8 with a right hand sprain, could return from the injured list as early as Saturday following a rehab game at Triple-A Sacramento. Manager Bob Melvin indicated Chapman's strong progress, pointing to impressive batting practice and defensive work, and said his return could come this weekend or during the team's six-game homestand starting July 7. The Giants have struggled recently, losing seven of eight games, and are short-handed at third base due to multiple injuries. Wilmer Flores has been filling in at third during Chapman's absence. Chapman's activation is viewed as vital as the Giants face upcoming series against the Phillies and Dodgers. He is also aiming to be fully ready for the July 11-13 Dodgers series, depending on his rehab progression.
