Italy probes Tesla, BYD, Volkswagen, Stellantis over misleading EV consumer info

Italy's competition authority, AGCM, has launched investigations into Tesla, BYD, Stellantis, and Volkswagen for allegedly misleading consumers regarding the performance of their electric vehicles. The probes focus on claims related to EV driving range, battery capacity degradation, and warranty limitations, which may breach Italy's Consumer Code. AGCM noted that the automakers' websites presented confusing and sometimes contradictory information about the driving range and did not adequately clarify factors affecting it. Additionally, the agency highlighted a lack of clear information about battery degradation due to normal use and warranty limitations. Inspections were conducted at the companies' Italian headquarters with assistance from Italy's financial police. The automakers have yet to issue comments regarding the ongoing investigations.
