Nvidia launches Signs, AI platform for ASL learning

Nvidia has launched a new AI-powered platform called Signs, designed to enhance the learning of American Sign Language (ASL) in collaboration with the American Society for Deaf Children and creative agency Hello Monday. The platform features a 3D avatar that demonstrates signs and provides real-time feedback through webcam analysis, initially offering a library of 100 signs with plans to expand to 1,000. This initiative aims to address the lack of resources for ASL compared to spoken languages and create more inclusive communication tools. Users can contribute videos to help build an open-source dataset, which Nvidia hopes to grow to 400,000 clips validated by fluent ASL users. Cheri Dowling of the American Society for Deaf Children emphasized the importance of providing early learning tools for families with deaf children. Overall, Signs represents Nvidia's commitment to leveraging AI technology to empower the disabled community and improve accessibility.
