Ukraine Nears Indigenous Ballistic Missile Development

Ukraine is on the verge of producing its own domestically made ballistic missiles, with Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal confirming that the country is very close to achieving this milestone. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously announced the successful testing of Ukraine's first ballistic missile and the launch of mass production of the Sapsan missile system, which demonstrated high speeds and a range capable of reaching deep into Russian territory. Military experts suggest that Ukraine has been experimentally using ballistic weapons in combat over the past six months, indicating an accumulation phase before scaling up production for effective use. The development of Ukrainian ballistic missiles is viewed as a strategic move to counter Russian air defenses, as these missiles are less vulnerable than cruise missiles. Shmyhal also highlighted the consolidation of support from international allies to meet Ukraine's defense needs. Meanwhile, North Korea has reportedly supplied Russia with substantial military aid, including ammunition and ballistic missiles, underscoring the ongoing regional arms dynamics.
