National Teen Voter Registration Day Events Begin

Meredith College is organizing a Voter Registration and Information Fair on September 17, 2024, coinciding with National Voter Registration Day, aiming to enhance civic engagement among students, faculty, and staff. The college has a notable history of high voter participation, with 88% of eligible students registered in 2022, the highest in North Carolina. Meanwhile, in Chicago, De La Salle Institute students participated in a voter registration drive at Leo High School, where approximately 400 teens registered to vote, reflecting a new Illinois law allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to preregister. Students expressed concerns about various issues, such as rising gas prices and housing costs, indicating their growing political awareness. High schools across Chicago are also conducting sessions to promote voter registration and participation, with over 34,000 new registrations recorded since June, primarily among young women. This collective effort underscores the emphasis on empowering young voters ahead of the presidential election in November.
