Forlán Debuts in Tennis, Eyes ITF Level Play

Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan made his professional tennis debut at the Uruguay Open, partnering with Argentine Federico Coria in a doubles match. Despite a supportive home crowd, Forlan and Coria were defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Bolivian pair Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos, with the match lasting less than an hour. Having retired from football in 2019, Forlan has been active in amateur tennis and won a doubles title on the ITF senior tour earlier this year. Forlan expressed gratitude for the opportunity and enjoyed the experience despite the loss, noting the special atmosphere created by the large turnout of fans. While his performance was modest, Forlan plans to continue playing at the ITF level, appreciating the courage it takes to transition to a new professional sport.
