Norwegian Football Federation Plans Gaza Aid from Israel World Cup Qualifier Profits
The Norwegian Football Federation has announced that it will donate all profits from its upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Israel on October 11 to humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza, citing the ongoing disproportionate attacks and suffering of civilians there. Federation President Lise Klaveness emphasized the organization's refusal to remain indifferent to the humanitarian crisis and stated the funds would support organizations providing active emergency aid on the ground. The Israeli Football Association responded by urging Norway to also condemn the October 7 Hamas attacks and hostage-taking, while cautioning against the possibility of funds being diverted to terrorist groups. Security concerns related to the match have led to reduced stadium capacity, with extra precautions expected to limit attendance by up to 3,000 seats. Despite tensions, Norway currently leads the qualifying group and hosted the match in Oslo, with ticket sales set to open soon. Klaveness, known for her outspoken stance on human rights, has maintained that the gesture complies with UEFA rules, which prohibit political messages in stadiums, although UEFA itself has faced criticism over its handling of political expressions in football.
