Sheffield Town Hall restoration project appoints architect

Sheffield City Council has appointed Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios to lead the restoration and refurbishment of Sheffield Town Hall, a historic Grade I listed building that has served as a central venue for civic events, council meetings, and public celebrations since 1897. The appointment follows a competitive selection process and is intended to address critical issues such as fire safety, accessibility, structural repairs, and the preservation of historical features. This restoration is partly prompted by a 2022 council report that identified urgent risks including fire hazards, water safety concerns, and inadequate ventilation. The project aims to blend the building's unique heritage with inclusive and sustainable design to ensure it remains a modern, accessible workplace and community hub for future generations. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios brings experience from similar heritage projects, including the Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and Brighton Dome Corn Exchange. City officials and the architectural team emphasized their commitment to maintaining the Town Hall's role at the heart of Sheffield's civic life and ensuring its longevity.
