Uber Adds Fixed Routes, Eats Savings, and Shuttles

Uber has introduced a range of cost-saving features, notably the launch of 'Route Share,' a bus-like, fixed-route service in major U.S. cities such as New York, San Francisco, and Chicago, offering pickups every 20 minutes during weekday rush hours at up to 50% less than UberX fares. Riders can share trips with up to two others by walking to designated stops. Uber is also expanding ride pass options, including a $2.99 monthly 'Price Lock Pass' to avoid surge pricing and prepaid ride bundles. For Uber Eats users, new features like a 'Savings Slider' will enable grocery price comparisons, alongside the upcoming 'Dine Out' feature for in-person restaurant deals. Partnerships were announced with Volkswagen to launch autonomous electric shuttles in Los Angeles starting in 2026 and with OpenTable for in-app dining reservations. These initiatives are part of Uber's response to slowing revenue growth, inflation, and rising competition, aiming to enhance affordability and predictability for consumers.
