Former Nurse Charged with Drug Theft
Two nurses have been arrested for theft-related charges in separate incidents. In Syracuse, Kelly Churney, a 46-year-old travel nurse, was apprehended for allegedly stealing credit cards from patients, facing charges of grand larceny and identity theft after an investigation revealed unauthorized charges linked to her. Meanwhile, in Coventry, 36-year-old Joan Samson was charged with theft by an employee for stealing morphine from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, as well as fraud and concerns related to Class A drugs. Both nurses are set to appear in court, with Churney currently incarcerated and Samson's hearing scheduled for January 22, 2025. Authorities urge potential victims of Churney's actions to come forward, as they believe there may be more victims. These incidents highlight serious breaches of trust within the healthcare profession.
