Hagerstown Woman Arrested for Seance-Related Arson
April Hough, a 45-year-old woman from Hagerstown, Maryland, was arrested for allegedly setting her apartment on fire as part of a seance. She reportedly removed several fire extinguishers from the building before the incident and barricaded herself in the rental office after admitting to starting the fire. The fire at The Ridge Apartments was contained to her unit, with other apartments only sustaining smoke damage, and all residents escaped uninjured. Hough is charged with first-degree arson, malicious burning, destruction of property, and reckless endangerment, and is being held without bond. A judge has ordered a competency evaluation, and prior to this incident, she faced charges of indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, and causing a false alarm. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is ongoing.
